East Harlem Preservation

Documenting Our Neighborhood Every Step of the Way!

Hello...

I am an outsider ( obviously ). I work for Ropeadope Records, and we are releasing a record next week called The Harlem Experiment. I'd like to know what we can do to help spread the word about East Harlem, maybe connect some more people to your network. Is this something you are looking for? There are a lot of people on the planet who love and respect Harlem, and many more who would if they knew how wonderful Harlem is. Can I post some music here? Yes, it's cross promotion in a sense, but we're a small label out to educate the world.

Ropeadope,
I know you don't know this, but East Harlem and Harlem are not the same thing, place or people. East Harlem is East of Harlem. And most East Harlemites don't like being confused with Harlemites. It's like calling a North Dakotan a South Dakotan, or calling someone not by their name. It has nothing to do with ethnic identification, but we East Harlemites are very proud of our little community. Hope you take this the right way. Have a most stupendous day. See ya.

Thanks Jose - I think we were just trying to let people know about the record, which includes music from both Harlem and East Harlem influences. We're not unhappy that both are included, we think it tells a great story. My apologies if my request appeared to define East Harlemites as something they are not.
