RESISTANCE IN EL BARRIO: Preserving and Building Community at Taino Towers

Picture the Homeless and the Welfare Poets will be sponsoring an evening of documentary film, music, discussion and celebration about the history and current possibilities of resistance to economic and social injustice in El Barrio.

- About Me:
- I am a Barrio girl. I've been either part of or in this community since my Mother migrated from Puerto Rico 1948/9. I'm about my community and will work and live only in my neighborhood. I plan to die right here in Spanish Harlem. I am woman, mother, grandmother, wife and I'm very concern with the changes occurring in my surroundings.
- Affiliation:
- I currently work as a domestic violence counselor in my neighborhood of El Barrio. Prior to this I worked as an HIV counselor (about 12 years) also here in El Barrio
- Concerns:
- Lack of affordable housing.
